Center pivot irrigation systems are one of the most common water delivery systems on the Texas High Plains drawing water from the Ogallala Aquifer.

One of the first Center Pivot systems used was the MESA (Medium Elevation Spray Application). This system was widely used and was more efficient than furrow or flood irrigation, however due to the elevation the spay pattern was subject to higher evaporative losses due to wind.
